Summary: The Deputy Workshop Manager is located within Mogadishu International Airport, Somalia and reports to the Workshop Manager and the Fleet Manager. The Deputy Workshop Manager is responsible for repairing, servicing, and maintaining the SKA fleet of vehicles. Providing the same service to clients on an ad hoc basis.

Key Responsibilities: The Deputy Workshop Manager is responsible for, but not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Review work orders to ensure that all actions have been documented according to Workshop policies and procedures.
  • Review customer service orders and inspect the quality of a technician's repairs before the release of vehicles.
  • Provide advice and technical assistance to team members.
  • Plan and prepare a budget for the department and facilities, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions.
  • Plan and adjust the workloads of the workshop personnel to match their skills and abilities.
  • Evaluate the impact of work delays, interruptions, or plan changes to develop an appropriate course of action.
  • Ensure that the department is adequately staffed to achieve objectives and that technicians are aware of procedures for using new products and equipment.
  • Ensure adequate maintenance of tools, equipment and other materials in the Service Area.
  • To be able to improvise when possible, to temporary repair a vehicle when spare parts are not available in stock or the local market.
  • Facilitate the orientation of new team members in collaboration with the Workshop Supervisor by familiarizing them with work surroundings, explaining work hours, procedures, use of equipment and job expectations and ensure that new team members understand their respective duties.
  • Analyze current procedures and activities to identify and present opportunities for improvement of the workshop.
  • Facilitate the training and development of team members in the department, by providing feedback and coaching to support improvements in their job performance.
  • Provide a safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety procedures.
  • Maintain good relationships with customers.
  • Maintain communication with management to report unusual concerns and share new ideas that may contribute to improved Workshop operations.
  • Conduct annual Performance Appraisal for Workshop Personnel.
  • Perform any other task as directed by the Base Operations Manager to achieve operational objectives

Qualification / Education Level :

  • Mechanical/Automobile Engineering related Degree/Diploma.
  • Professional-related certificates.

Experience:

  • Over 10 years experience in the automotive/mechanical industry
  • Over 5 years experience managing an automotive workshop

Special Skills, if any:

  • Excellent oral and written skills are essential.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills.
  • Excellent management, leadership, and organizational skills are essential.
  • Familiarity with automotive systems (vehicle layout, function, and location of parts)
  • Knowledge of mechanical issues, warranties, service, and general repairs
  • Technically competent with the ability to train others
  • High integrity and professionalism.
  • Customer relation focused.
  • Ability to manage and control accounts.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multicultural international workforce.
  • Ability to understand different cultures to achieve the end objective.
  • Must be able to work under pressure in a high-risk environment.
