Number of positions: 1

Reporting to: Head of Admin and Finance department.

Duty Station: East Africa University, Garowe Campus.

Contract Duration: 1 year with the possibility of extension.

EAU was established in Bosaso in 1999 at Bosaso commercial city of Puntland Somalia where by currently EAU has 8 campuses locating in (Bosaso Main Campus, Garowe, Galkaio, Gardo, Goldogob, Buhodle, Cerigabo and Burtinle).

The university, since its inception in 1999 has undergone tremendous transformation in terms of geographical coverage, courses offered and management structure. These continuous innovations were intended to develop the university teaching and learning process to cope with international standards. Currently, the university felt a strong desire to think strategically to become ahead in the competition as the leading academic Centre for educational excellence in Somalia.

Accountant Job Description

The Senior accountant officer will be responsible for all financial transactions of EAU-Garowe campus. He/she will prepare the financial reports for the University, ensuring financial status and preparing balance sheets, releasing all salaries and other expenses, securing account information and Managing Financial systems of the university.

The main Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are the main roles and responsibilities of EAU-GRW accountant officer, he/she will play a key role in all accountant duties in the University.

  1. Oversees the day-to-day accounting and processing of the university income and expenses; examines and reports financial transactions to funding sources; and guarantees accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standard accounting and audit processes as well as university standards.
  2. Keeps an eye on and preserves important accounting data for the operational unit in the financial system.
  3. Interprets and evaluates financial operations and transactions; anticipates trends; creates unique, intricate reports and analysis for management and funding organizations; offers suggestions for controlling expenses and making the best use of assets.
  4. Oversees the organization's principal liability accounts and monitors and maintains proper revenue levels.
  5. Examines and evaluates personnel, expenditure, and purchasing papers to ensure they are in conformity with university policy and are mathematically correct.
  6. Creates budgets and specialized financial reports in addition to analyzing, balancing, and maintaining accounting records.
  7. Prepares, examines, and analyzes payroll, revenue, cost, and budgetary data. May also produce bank reconciliations with varying degrees of sophistication.
  8. Serves as a liaison with client department officials, vendors, and funding source representatives. Engages in interactions and provides training to staff on finance rules and procedures and financing needs.
  9. Able to oversee and manage data processing batches, including balancing, cash counts, and suspense control.
  10. May oversee and/or manage student workers and/or lower rated personnel. could support auditing efforts.
  11. Completes several job-related duties as assigned.

✓ Highly motivated, results-oriented, and with well-developed problem-solving skills.

Education, Experience, and other Requirements:

• A master’s degree in accounting is required.

• Relevant accounting certification (ACCA or CPA) is an added advantage.

• A minimum of three years of experience in accounting.

• Proven experience in the implementation and use of any major ERP system.

• A Demonstrated knowledge of general accounting software is an ideal for this Position, specifically QuickBooks, Oracle NetSuite, Odoo, Wave and others.
