This is a position in UNOPS for supporting projects carried out for or in the United Nations Secretariat. The incumbent of this position will be a staff member of UNOPS under its full responsibility.
Functional Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of UNOPS Senior Programme Manager, the Communications Senior Officer - Digital and Content will work operationally under the direction of the Public Information Officer, Information Support Management Section (ISMS) in the United Nations Support Office in Somalia and will serve as the focal point for the Mission's digital engagement. He/she will perform the following tasks:

- Media Production:
- Produces social media campaigns through, undertaking research, determining appropriate platforms and target audiences, preparing production plans, writing drafts, and obtaining clearances.
- Creates digital media content and sources content with substantive sections and units to ensure consistent messaging, quality control and a coherent user experience.
- Optimizes Mission's web pages within various digital platforms (Website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube) to increase the visibility of the Mission's social media content including by proactively writing and gathering editorial content (text, images/photos, audio, video, infographics, etc.) from UNSOS substantive sections and units and adapt it for web and social media. Ensure optimal functionality for accessibility of content on the main website and sub-sites of the Mission.
- Ensures measurement of digital communication campaigns performance (obtain data to improve future digital communication campaigns,)
- Media Monitoring
- Quantitative analysis of media monitoring, social media and hate speech monitoring (engagement, influencers, location, sentiment, reach, etc)
- Monitors and analyzes current events, public opinion and press, identifies issues and trends on digital media, and advises management on appropriate action/responses.
- Media Policy and Approach:
- Implements UNSOS Digital Media policy and approach for the Mission's online presence on digital platforms and in line with the global digital and social media communications strategy for the United Nations.
- Work on digital media procedures and action plans, through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification in line with the United Nations' mandate and related digital communications / social media strategies and policies.
- Perform other tasks and responsibilities relevant to the scope of this position.
Impact of Results
The result of work of the Communications Senior Officer - Digital and Content impacts directly on delivery of services that satisfy the requirements of UNSOS as well as the performance of the services implemented there. It will also ensure proper processes and methodologies are followed and implemented according to the latest of the industry standards. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring activities for all global locations are in line with the overall business targets and UN policies, rules and regulations.
Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:
- Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) preferably in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field.
- A first-level university degree (Bachelor's degree) in combination with additional two years of experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience:
Required Experience:
- A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area.
- A minimum of one year of professional progressive experience in dealing with digital media.
- Experience in drafting and implementing digital media policies.
- Experience with social media management and marketing tools such as Talkwalker and Meltwater.
- Experience with Adobe suite of digital products such as (Adobe Photoshop, or After Effects).
- Experience with Content Management Systems for websites.
Desired Experience: The following experience is optional. Candidates who do not have it are welcome to apply
- Experience of working with the United Nations or an international organization
- Demonstrated interest in peace-making and conflict prevention, as well as field experience.
- Working experience with third-party, public information service providers.
Language Requirements:
- Fluency in English (speak, write, read) is required
- Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable
