Primary Role

The Field Manager will lead, infrastructure and livelihood improvement of fishing communities, data collection efforts, including Project Kalluun, and engagement efforts with the Federal Member State of Puntland. The Field Manager will also engage regularly with the Federal Government of Somalia through infrastructure and livelihood improvement. The Field Manager will direct other team members who are working on livelihood and infrastructure improvement such as cold chain storage in the SF offices in the Somali region.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Represent Secure Fisheries in Puntland and establish close relationship with the stakeholders.
  • Work with members of the Puntland Government to build capacity and knowledge of fishing communities as well as the Ministry staff.
  • Lead the implementation of Secure Fisheries projects in Puntland project target communities (Project planning and implementation).
  • Lead fisheries catch data collection efforts by coordinating existing Project Kalluun sites and spearheading expansion efforts to new sites.
  • Collect this data in an organized and searchable database.
  • Engage with donors and other international groups as needed to promote our projects
  • Contribute to field-based publications resulting from the research that can specifically guide Somali policy.
  • In close coordination with SF Director and BDD, engage with investors and donors to bring funding to targeted projects.
  • Manage project budget within approved spending levels and ensure accurate and timely financial reports to donors.
  • Liaise with other NGOs, relevant Government agencies to ensure good coordination of effort, avoid duplication, share lessons and approaches for maximizing impact.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as assigned/requested.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, And Competencies

This position is open to an enthusiastic and dedicated individual with marine environment fisheries data collection experience, livelihood programs and strong ties to the Somali fisheries and fishing communities.

General Skills And Required Experience Include

  • An advanced degree in Marine Science, international development, agriculture, food security, or related field
  • Over five years' experience in working with INGOs/UN agencies particularly working with fishing communities
  • Experience in cold chain infrastructure management
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) and Somali (oral and written);
  • Good computer skills (required: spreadsheets);
  • Ability to work as a team and take direction;
  • Ability to lead and manage other workers;
  • Strong adherence to deadlines;
  • Self-motivated and autonomous worker;
  • Strong writing skills in both technical and general audience venues; and
  • Commitment to both the Secure Fisheries and OEF visions.

Physical Work Demands

  • Able to sit at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Able to bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.
  • Able to lift and move up to 25 lbs regularly.
