Requirements

• Medical degree and specialization in Pediatrics
• Fluency in English
• Solid experience in pediatrics and neonatology

(At least two years' relevant professional experience)

• Previous experience in resource-limited countries
• Alignment with MedAcross's mission and Code of Ethics
• Adherence to the organization's safety rules
• Experience and knowledge of the "Neonatal Resuscitation at Birth" program
• Passport valid for at least 6 months
• P-BLS certificate

Preferred Qualifications

• Tropical medicine course
• PALS certificate

Main Responsibilities and Tasks

The pediatrician/neonatologist will be part of the "Upgrading Somaliland Pediatric Health Care Services Quality" project, aimed at strengthening the neonatology ward and pediatric services at the MAS-CTH Pediatric Hospital in Hargeisa.

The primary tasks and responsibilities include:

• To assess the initial knowledge level of doctors and nurses who work at MAS Hospital.
• To provide on-the-job training for doctors and nurses.
• To improve the work in MAS-CTH pediatric ward.
• To collect and analyze neonatal and pediatric data.
• To collaborate in updating and applying clinical protocols.
• To assess the equipment needed for the neonatal ward and define the procurement list.
• To support the neonatal intensive care units at the MAS-CTH hospital.
• To support the pediatric ward at the MAS-CTH hospital.

General Context:

MedAcross is an international organization founded in 2016 in Turin, Italy. Its primary mission is to provide free healthcare to marginalized communities of Developing Countries and training of healthcare workers and community volunteers. Currently, MedAcross operates in Myanmar, Thailand, and Somaliland.

Before its establishment in 2016, most of MedAcross's board members were involved in MAS Onlus, an organization whose primary objective was to construct and manage a pediatric hospital in Hargeisa. This hospital, known as MAS-CTH, was completed in 2012 with funding from Specchio dei Tempi, inaugurated in January 2013, and handed over to the Somaliland government in 2016 following three years of intensive staff training. Since then, the hospital has successfully treated over 100,000 children, making a significant contribution to the well-being of the local community.

"Specchio dei tempi" is a non-profit foundation supported by the readers of "La Stampa" newspaper. Specchio dei tempi operates in Italy and globally.

These two organizations have been collaborating on solidarity and international cooperation projects for some time. Since December 2021, they have jointly undertaken a program of pediatric mobile clinics connecting refugee camps around Hargeisa, Somaliland, with the MAS CTH Pediatric Hospital in Hargeisa. The project, "Upgrading Somaliland Pediatric Health Care Services Quality," has been active since July 2022 and includes expanding the previous mobile clinic program and strengthening the neonatology department of the MAS-CTH Pediatric Hospital.
